2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a more defined game identity.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the full content from the president's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Director of the team. After several months of talks, he starts with us on next week.

His management and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all excited to persist seeing the progress of the game in the weeks to ahead.

David

Title Details and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that evolve every session. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game lacks an official release date or platforms, but players can expect further news as creation progresses.
