This winter transfer window is typically a time of feverish rumour and potential major transfers. Several high-profile stars find themselves connected to transfers out of their present clubs. We examine a selection of the key names that might be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, this has kept the forward available, indications are a major move is close. This 25-year-old has a deal featuring a substantial release clause applicable for a brief period in early January. Recent developments point to the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This England defender has continued to excel for Palace this season a previous transfer to Anfield falling through. With his contract set to run out in the close season, January is the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. A host of top clubs, including City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spain that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following the manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a winter exit seems increasingly probable. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a potential destination, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The proven England centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his dwindling chances of being in the national World Cup. But, arranging a deal presents significant hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his reported huge weekly wages make any move difficult. This highly-rated Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. With his current contract running down, many English sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but are in a battle to retain one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a big-money move this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face strong competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at approximately £22 million.
