Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
